Install IPTV on Roku in 10 steps

1. Look for a player in the Roku store

   From the home screen, choose Search and try IPTV player. What turns up changes from month to month, and most results are not the official Smarters app. Read each description carefully and only add one that clearly accepts an Xtream Codes login or a playlist URL.

2. Enter Xtream details or the M3U link

   Once a promising app is installed, launch it and look for Xtream Codes. Start with the server address, then add the username and password we sent. A few Roku players only offer a single playlist box; in that case paste the M3U address instead and wait for the list to load.

3. Find out what your Roku supports

   Settings, System, About shows the exact model and its software version. AirPlay is limited to certain 4K-capable Roku devices, and older sticks may only offer generic screen mirroring. 4. Allow mirroring on the Roku

   On the phone, open Settings, Parental Control in Smarters, choose a PIN and lock categories that are not suitable. Mirroring will then only show what the phone allows. On the Roku side, the parental controls in your Roku account can restrict store purchases and certain content.

9. Plug in a streaming stick for daily viewing

Mirrored films stutter

The film travels to the phone and then on to the TV, doubling the load on the router. Sit the phone on charge within sight of the router, play the HD edition and hold off on game updates or cloud uploads until the credits roll.

AirPlay support is limited to selected Roku hardware running recent software. Run Settings, System, System update first. When the menu still lacks AirPlay, cast from an Android phone or Windows laptop instead, or add a stick for an all-iPhone household.

Win+K cannot find the Roku

Win+K uses Miracast, which the computer and the Roku both need to support over one shared network. A graphics driver update often brings the TV into the list, provided Roku mirroring is switched on. Desktops lacking a Wi-Fi card cannot use it, so connect with HDMI instead.
