Install IPTV on LG Smart TV in 10 steps

1. Open the LG app store

   Tap the Home key on the Magic Remote, then choose Apps. On sets a few years old the store is called LG Content Store instead. Pick the search icon at the top. The store wants an LG account before any download, and creating it on a phone beforehand saves fiddly TV typing.

2. Install a player

   Search for IPTV Smarters Pro, which signs in with Xtream details and splits live TV, films and series into separate sections. Smart IPTV is the lighter option and moves quickly on older sets, but it needs a one-time activation after its trial. Launch the app from the ribbon at the bottom of the home screen once it has installed.

3. Connect your IPPlayTV account

   Smarters users pick Login with Xtream Codes API and type the details from WhatsApp. Smart IPTV works another way: note the MAC on its start screen, open siptv.app/mylist on a phone, add that MAC with your M3U address, tick Detect EPG, send it and relaunch the app.

4. Point and scroll through the library

   The Magic Remote is a real help here. Aim the pointer at a category and roll the scroll wheel instead of tapping arrow keys through long lists. In Smarters, open Movies to browse categories, or Series to pick a show, a season and an episode. The search icon is faster still when you already know the title.

5. Choose subtitles and soundtracks

   While a title plays, click the screen to bring up the player controls and look for subtitle and audio track options. Films and episodes that include several tracks list them there. The LG settings under All Settings, General, Accessibility cover captions for broadcast TV, while player apps normally keep their own subtitle menu.

6. Confirm the time and time zone

   The programme guide depends on the TV clock. Find it at All Settings, General, System, Time & Date on webOS 6 or newer; older releases list Time & Date straight under General. Leave automatic time on and check the zone, so start times and catch-up entries line up with your evening.

7. Add favourites and a second profile

   Save the channels and shows you return to as favourites so they gather in one list. When someone else in the home has their own IPPlayTV login, open the user list in Smarters, add a new user and enter those details. Each profile keeps separate favourites, which keeps cartoons apart from crime dramas.

8. Use a network cable for 4K

   Nearly every LG television has a network socket on the back. A cable holds 4K films far better than the built-in Wi-Fi and stays steady while phones and laptops in the house are busy. Keep 4K for large screens and switch to HD when the connection is under pressure.

9. Compare 4K and HD on your own screen

   Plenty of titles are offered twice, once in 4K and once in HD. Play a scene in both versions back to back. From a normal seat in front of a mid-sized screen, the difference is often slight, and the HD copy opens quicker when you are hopping from episode to episode.

10. Lock categories for children

    Inside IPTV Smarters Pro, the Parental Control page under Settings asks for a PIN, after which you tick the categories to hide from children. Locked groups stay hidden until the PIN is entered. A separate kids user with its own favourites of animated films and family series makes the TV easy for children to use alone.

Sound plays but the screen is black

Open the player settings and choose a different decoder or player type, such as the native option. If a 4K title still shows nothing, try its HD version, since older LG chips handle that format more easily.

No IPTV player appears in the LG store

The playlist disappears after a restart

Some webOS builds clear app data when storage runs low. Clear out unused apps, then log back in. Smart IPTV users can tick Save online when uploading on siptv.app/mylist, which stores the list with the developer rather than on the TV.

The pointer keyboard is fast yet easy to misaim. Re-enter the server address, confirming the http:// prefix and the port suffix, and copy capital letters in the password exactly. Delete any old suggestion the TV autofills before typing again.

Pull the TV plug for sixty seconds; a full power cut frees memory that standby leaves untouched. Launch the player once more. Still frozen? Update it from the LG store, or remove it, reinstall and re-enter your IPPlayTV login.

Subtitles show in the wrong language

Films can carry several subtitle files, and the player may pick the first one listed. Open the subtitle menu during playback and choose the language you want. Some players let you set a preferred subtitle language in their settings, so later titles start with the right track automatically.

Guide times are out by an hour

Check Time & Date on the TV before anything else. When only one channel group disagrees, the EPG Timeshift control in the player, if your edition has it, shifts those listings hour by hour.
